CU04: US 17

CU04 Overview Map

Lafayette Ave TO Station Drive

Survey

The survey regarding potential transportation safety and operations improvements along Route 17 (Marsh Rd.) between Lafayette Ave./Independence Ave. and Station Dr. is complete.

Project Purpose

The purpose of this study will be to analyze the operational and safety issues identified along US 17 within Bealeton. The intersection of US 17 and Route 28 has been identified as a Potential for Safety Improvement (PSI). As well, the area is under-going active development that anticipates to add volume to the network.

The study goal is to identify innovative cost-effective solutions that will improve the safety and preserve the capacity of the US 17 network within Bealeton. As well, other modes of transportation will be evaluated, such as bike, ped, and transit facilities. Pedestrian crashes have been observed in the area and local initiatives are to increase connectivity within the area. Based on ongoing development and future growth within the area, reducing internal trips by providing access to other modes will help preserve capacity and mobility within the area. The study team will also ensure that improvements are consistent with County Comprehensive plans and contextually sensitive to the Bealeton Service District.
